It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to APSCVIR 2018 in Auckland, New Zealand from the 8th to the 11th March 2018, kindly hosted by the Interventional Radiology Society of Australasia (IRSA).
Set in beautiful Auckland in late summer, APSCVIR 2018 will usher in a new and exciting era for Interventional Radiology in the Asia-Pacific region. Not only is this the 13th scientific meeting of APSCVIR, it is the first annual meeting and will be known as the 13th Annual Scientific Meeting of APSCVIR. Just like CIRSE in Europe and SIR in North America, APSCVIR will become an annual event in the calendars of interventional radiologists and industry partners in the Asia-Pacific.
The Organising Committee for APSCVIR 2018 has already been working hard to plan a superb meeting in Auckland.
The meeting will be held at the Sky City Convention Centre close to the Auckland waterfront and a high quality academic programme is planned. The theme for the meeting is “Advances, Problems, Solutions” and the scientific programme will provide an excellent update on the latest developments in Interventional Radiology. An exciting international and local faculty including many thought leaders from the Asia-Pacific region has been confirmed. Plenary and proffered paper sessions cover all the important IR topics in 2018 with live case broadcasts from Singapore, Sydney and Auckland. APSCVIR joins the world stage, meeting many of the international interventional societies who will visit APSCVIR 2018 including SIR, CIRSE, VIVA, LINC, SIO and SPIR. APSCVIR also welcomes the Vascular Society of New Zealand with combined sessions highlighting the latest vascular and endovascular advances.
A memorable social programme is planned including a Meeting Dinner right on the Auckland waterfront. Accommodation has been reserved at a number of nearby hotels, including the Sky City Grand and Sky City Hotel which are attached to the convention centre. A range of accommodation options will be available. Auckland and New Zealand is famous for it’s food and wine and there are excellent and varied dining opportunities in close proximity to the conference venue.
Late summer is an excellent time to visit “The City of Sails”, as Auckland is known. Set in the beautiful Hauraki Gulf, Auckland is one of the most spectacular cities in the world. Whether sailing on the harbour, enjoying fine wine and food on Waiheke Island, playing golf at one of our top courses or wandering around the many parks and extinct volcanic cones that are scattered throughout the city, a visit to Auckland is unforgettable. Although for many of you, New Zealand seems a long way from home, it is in fact only a single flight from most major cities in Asia. I encourage you to spend some extra time exploring this wonderful and friendly country and invite you to bring family and friends along for the trip of a lifetime! For those of you that remember the spectacular scenery in The Lord of the Rings movies, it’s all here so come and experience it!
On behalf of APSCVIR and IRSA, we look forward to welcoming you to Auckland in March 2018 – it’ll be a visit you will never forget!
Andrew Holden (Convenor)
