Interventional Radiologist, Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, Ireland

Michael J Lee MSc, FRCPI, FRCR, FFR(RCSI), FSIR, FCIRSE, EBIR is professor of Radiology at the Royal College of Surgeons medical school in Ireland and has been a practicing staff interventional radiologist at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin for over 20 years. Professor Lee graduated from medical school at University College Dublin in 1982 and completed 3 years of medical training before entering radiology in 1985. After completing radiology training in Ireland he spent 6 years at the Massachusetts General Hospital specializing in Interventional radiology and Abdominal Imaging. He returned to Ireland in 1995 as professor of radiology at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and Consultant Interventional Radiologist at Beaumont Hospital.

Professor Lee has held many positions in the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe and is a recent past president. He is also the secretary of the IR division at UEMS. He is on the editorial board of 5 journals and European editor of Seminars in Interventional Radiology. He has received Gold medals from the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe and the British Society of Radiology. Interests include peripheral vascular disease, venous thromboembolism, acute and non-acute embolization procedures and interventional oncology. He is also a committed educator and delivers both a diagnostic radiology and interventional radiology teaching program to undergraduate medical students at RCSI.

He has published widely on Interventional Radiology topics with over 200 peer reviewed papers, 80 chapters and reviews and over 200 invited lectures, including two eponymous lectures. He has also co-edited textbooks entitled ‘Interventional Radiology: The Requisites”, now in its second edition and Interventional Radiology for Medical Students and is also series editor for six books on Techniques in Interventional Radiology.
